Hey there, Islanders!
This is a constantly evolving email blast, and we're excited to share another addition to The Islander -- our "Meet Your Neighbor" feature. Each week, we'll be sharing mini profiles of people who work, play or live in the Wilton Manors area Check out our first profile, of Patrick A. Harris.
We hope you enjoy, and we're always looking for leads and suggestions to bring together our community.

Patrick A. Harris is the works as the Director of Major Gifts for United Way of Broward County. He worked previously as the Vice President and COO of Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale.
“I think the fact that I'm an out executive makes a big impact, to know that people in my previous life can be actively involved with the city of Fort Lauderdale, currently now with United Way of Broward County and openly be out with my husband and do what I do and it's accepted,” Harris said. “I think that is a major talking point because you don't have to hide in the closet down here, it gives more visibility to our community.”
Harris is also the chair of the Wilton Manors Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. The board reviews art in public places and focuses on upgrading and bringing people into the parks. He is also a board member at the Center for Great Apes, where they rescue chimpanzees and orangutans that were used in entertainment research or were part of the exotic pet trade. Finally, he is a board member of the Tower Forum, a non-partisan group that hosts discussions on a multitude of topics such as but not limited to the government, economy, education and arts.
He is married to his husband Wesley, with whom he has two cats and two dogs. Harris also likes to sing karaoke and shoot pool in his free time.
