New Faces on Wilton Manors Boards

By John Hayden

Wilton Manors’ Planning and Zoning Board (P&Z) will be making big decisions soon regarding the city’s future. After making several new appointments in April, two more were made during the city commission meeting on June 13.

Technically, there was only one vacancy, which was created by Jude Bellinger. He resigned due to a possible conflict of interest, stemming from his involvement with a community group representing businesses on Wilton Drive.

As the board’s alternate, Scott McCoy has been participating until the commission could appoint a new full member. During the meeting, the commission voted to have him finish Bellanger’s term, creating a new vacancy for the alternate position.

Remaining candidates, who had applied for the original job, were considered for the alternate. Louis Izquierdo was chosen over William Hayden and Mike Sansevero.

Parks and Recreation

The commission also filled four scheduled vacancies on the Parks and Recreation board. Because only four candidates applied, all four were chosen to fill the positions. The new members are Roger Cruttenden, George DeFrance, Charles Higgins, and Dylan Salem.

None of the members on expiring terms reapplied.

Furry Friend

Looking for a dog who might smother you with kisses?

If so, Gretel (ID 666705) could be the gal for you. This sweetheart is five years old and wants to be with her loved ones. Her previous family kept her outside 24/7 and all Gretel wanted to do was come inside. This girl is gentle, loving and will be a wonderful addition to any dog-loving family. She is heartworm positive and has started her treatment here at the shelter. Her new adopter must be willing to bring her back to the Humane Society to complete the treatment.  Heartworm is not contagious to people or other animals and is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. That is why it is so important that your dogs are on heartworm prevention. If left untreated, it can be deadly.

To meet Gretel, Sissy or any other pet, complete the pre-adoption application on the Humane Society of Broward County’s website and then stop by. The shelter is located at 2070 Griffin Road, Fort Lauderdale and opens daily at 11 a.m. and if you have questions call 954-989-3977 ext. 6.

New opportunities open up in your career and finances, says the Ace of Pentacles, but making them blossom is up to you. It is necessary to leave behind the obstinacy of the reversed Queen of Wands, with her unrealistic expectations and narcissism. If the stubborn queen represents you, look forward to the Tower collapse of the status quo that you have been maintaining for fear of change. If the queen represents someone you must leave behind, don’t hesitate; it might feel like your Tower is crashing down, but only to give you the chance to start anew.
